Ketua Pengurus Cabang Nahdlatul Ulama Temanggung Tajudin Noor berpendapat, dalam hukum Islam tidak ada satu rujukan yang dengan tegas mengharamkan rokok. Silang pendapat tentang merokok memang diakui ada.
“Sebagian ulama menganggap makruh, atau hal yang sepatutnya tidak dilakukan. Sebagian lain ada yang tidak mempermasalahkannya,” ujarnya.
Tajudin, mengutip pandangan Ahlusunah Waljama’ah yang menganggap segala sesuatu terjadi karena kehendak Tuhan. Bukan semata-mata karena teori yang dikembangkan manusia. “Misalnya, merokok merugikan kesehatan, itu biasanya. Tapi tidak serta-merta terjadi. Hukum kausalitas seperti itu tidak selalu menjadi kenyataan,” ujarnya.
Secara khusus dia memperhatikan dampak ekonomi yang akan terjadi di Temanggung jika fatwa haram merokok jadi dikeluarkan. “Sudah, rokok itu makruh saja, tidak usah yang lain,” tegasnya.
Seperti diketahui, Kabupaten Temanggung merupakan salah satu daerah penghasil tembakau terbesar di Indonesia. Kualitas tembakau asal daerah ini diakui banyak pihak merupakan kualitas yang terbaik. Salah satu jenis tembakau, yaitu tembakau Srintil bisa dijual dengan harga Rp400 ribu per kilogram.

saya sih ga punya pendapat tentang rokok itu makruh, haram atau halal.

kalau sesuatu hal lebih banyak rugi atawa mudharatnya ketimbang keuntungan atau kebaikan pasti haram. kalau imbang bisa jadi makruh, kalau lebih banyak untungnya atawa baiknya bisa jadi halal. nah, sekarang adakah kebaikan dari merokok? kalau pun ada, apakah lebih banyak untung dan baiknya ketimbang kerugian? kalau ternyata setelah dihitung malah banyak ruginya berarti sudah jelas HARAM. (saya tidak mengatakan rokok itu haram lho…)

Bukankah bunuh diri dilarang? dan lagi rokok walaupun tidak menghilangkan akal tapi dia mempunyai efek addict seperti hamr. semua penelitian sudah menunjukkan rokok berbahaya buat kesehatan. Negara-yang mayoritas non muslim aja sudah mulai membatasi rokok yang ujungnya akan melarang rokok, lantas kenapa ummat muslim yang sudah punya rambu-rambu dalam segala tindakannya mesti membolehkan merokok hanya karena alasan ekonomi??
